Gold · crowd short · Oct 2023 over its bar at week 1 · turn confirmed Nov 2023 · 29 days in

+6.1%

fade long · graded at the 13-week horizon · on the record for good

entered Oct 16, 2023 · first open after the Oct 10, 2023 reportcrowd short, stretched past 97% of its 3-year range · era: out-of-sample (2019→)turn confirmed Nov 27, 2023 · 29 days in

On Oct 10, 2023 the gold crowd was net short past 97% of its own three-year range, so the frozen rule faded it at the Oct 16, 2023 open. The fade cleared its 1.3% bar at week 1 and the turn was confirmed on Nov 27, 2023, 29 days in. The 13-week close was +6.1%. It never traded against you inside the window at all.

WHY THIS TRADE EXISTS

No one chose it. The rule enters every extreme it sees, at the next session’s open, blind, on purpose. This file answers one question: what was the extreme worth, measured against every comparable extreme in gold’s own record? The published answer is “not much”. Most cases do not turn. That is exactly why the file records what else was present when this market did turn.

Why no stop, no exit? Because this is a measurement, not a managed position. The question is what the extreme was worth under one frozen rule, every time: a stop would smuggle discretion and survivorship back into the record. The adverse sit-through is published for exactly that reason, and the clock, not a choice, closes the window at W13.

THE DIRECTION▲ LONG · FADING THE SHORT CROWD

The crowd is short; this file bets against it, long from the entry arrow below the bars. Trend-following, the other classic COT read, would ride with the crowd (short here): same tape, mirror sign · where this fade reads +6.1%, riding the crowd reads −6.1%. CONDITIONS AT ENTRY · TRADE #26

2 LEAN TURN · 1 CLOSE · 2 RAN-ON

The conditions here are split · no side of the record clearly matches this trade.

Each condition is compared with gold’s own past: what it read when the crowd turned, and what it read when the crowd ran on. Whichever it sits closer to wins the row. A map for your read, never a rule.
